Japanese Sweet Peas are one of the most frequent requests we receive — and for good reason. Japan is recognized worldwide for producing the highest-quality cut flower sweet peas, thanks to a combination of favorable climate, growing techniques, and decades of focused breeding.
The varieties we offer are the result of long-term breeding efforts by and for Japanese cut flower growers, particularly through the work of the Miyazaki Agricultural Experiment Station, which has played a leading role in developing these high-performance, florist-grade cultivars.
We are pleased to offer the following Japanese sweet pea varieties in 50-count packs: Suzanne, Neograce, Sylvia, Takeda Sakura, Stella, Valentine, First Lady, and Blue Pearl (pictured in order).
These are spring/summer flowering types. Stella and Takeda Sakura are in very limited supply. In Japanese sweet pea production, Sylvia is used both as a white and dyed.
Our Sweet Pea Starting Guide outlines how Canadian growers can use a simple Japanese production method to improve their sweet pea cut flower quality, and germination instructions for achieving close to 100% germination.
Unicorn Blooms is pleased to make these seeds available under the following conditions set by the breeder: By placing an order, you agree not to resell or propagate for seed.
Germination rates below from the producer (*Please note these rates are significantly lower than the rates we achieved using the method linked above. Nicking or filing the seed coat will allow almost 100% germination. See details in our Sweet Pea Starting Guide).
Blue Pearl - 96%
First Lady - 98%
Neograce - *70%
Stella - 96%
Suzanne - 87%
Sylvia - 94%
